This award recognizes a library (public, academic, or special), library system, or library network in Virginia for outstanding achievements in service.
This award is given to a group of Friends of the Library in recognition of the distinguished service provided to Virginia's libraries. He has been a professional editor for 16 years, culminating in his current work leading a team of publishers at Libraries Unlimited, who produce LIS textbooks and professional books for practicing librarians of all types. Friends groups should allocate a large percentage of the donations they receive each year to the libraries they are affiliated with or to the Fairfax County library system as a whole. To celebrate the achievements of those who support and transform libraries across the Commonwealth, the Virginia Library Association, thanks to the hard work of the Awards and Recognitions Committee, offers several awards.
The purpose of Friends of the Library groups associated with public libraries in Fairfax County, Virginia is to maintain an association of individuals and organizations interested in libraries and to cooperate with the Fairfax County Public Library in developing public library services and facilities for the Pohick region. They should allocate a significant portion of their donations to support local libraries or to Fairfax County library system as a whole. United for Libraries supports those who govern, promote, advocate and fundraise for libraries, and brings together library managers, advocates, friends and foundations in a partnership that creates a powerful force for 21st century libraries. Skip Auld, of the MLS, has worked in public and academic libraries on the East Coast for more than 40 years.
He has a master's degree in Library Science from the University of North Carolina and a certificate in Public Administration from Virginia Commonwealth University. In this role, he maintains the library's public Internet and intranet sites and develops applications on the Microsoft Power Platform. I applaud the Friends groups for their efforts to allocate some of the funds that Fairfax County has allocated to other purposes, in their efforts to change the focus of libraries and to pay for all their new ideas. However, Fairfax County Public Library branches are unable to accept donations for the duration of the current COVID-19 health crisis.
